San Francisco Most Walkable City
A survey conducted by the Seattle based company Front Seat, creators of the website Walk Score, ranked San Francisco the highest in the nation for walkability, besting New York for the top spot. Going block-by-block in each city, the survey considered population and available amenities, assigning each neighborhood a score and a color based ranking; Green indicated walkable neighborhoods. The neighborhoods that scored the highest in S.F. were Chinatown and the Financial District. New York had the most neighborhoods on the top ten. The survey was conducted to help people make smart choices when choosing areas to live where they wouldn’t be dependent on a car. “Our long-term hope is that every home listing will carry a Walk Score – ‘3 bedroom, 2 bath, Walk Score of 85,’ ” says Front Seat Founder Mike Mathieu.
