Green: The New Yellow
New York City has set a goal of replacing all of its aging yellow cab fleet, many of which only get 14 mpg, with hybrids by the year 2012. After Oct. 1st of this year, all new cabs are required to get over 25 mpg. A year later the limit goes up to 30 mpg. Automakers are reserving hybrid vehicles to help NYC meet its goal.
A new service in many cities helps commuters split the cost and emissions of their trip. Ride Amigos helps locate people with similar destinations so that they can share a cab or carpool.
